Apigenin (4',5,7-trihydroxyflavonoid) is a member of the flavonoid subclass of flavonoids and is widely found in herbs, fruits and vegetables. Therefore, it is an important part of the human diet. It has been reported to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-cancer properties, and apigenin anti aging. Through research, we discovered the protective effect of apigenin on the skin, and found that in experiments using cells, apigenin restored the vitality of normal human skin fibroblasts (nHDF), which had been induced by Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation in UVA reduces range. Therefore, the clinical efficacy of apigenin on aging skin was investigated by clinical application using an apigenin-containing cream. Specifically, dermal density, skin elasticity, and length of fine wrinkles were measured in subjects treated with apigenin cream or a control cream without apigenin. Additionally, studies have examined the effects of apigenin-containing creams on skin texture, moisture, and transepidermal water loss (TEWL). From these experiments, we found that apigenin-containing creams increased dermal density and elasticity and reduced the length of fine wrinkles. It also improves skin evenness, moisture content and TEWL. These results clearly demonstrate the biological role of apigenin, which is apigenin anti aging.
